The picturesque Big Island is full of places, on land and in the ocean, to explore. It’s famous for its stunning black sand and green sand beaches where you may see large Hawaiian green sea turtles basking on the beach. The island’s white sand beaches offer plenty of fun as well. Anaehoomalu Beach and Laalao Beach in Kona, two of the island’s white sand beaches, are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Cruises, scuba diving tours, visits to small coastal towns, scenic state parks, and much more is waiting to be explored on Hawaii’s Big Island.
Visit almost any of Kailua Kona’s restaurants and you’ll find tasty seafood, a diverse selection of flavorful tropical foods, and plenty of Kona coffee. Many of the town’s restaurants sit along the ocean-side Alii Drive within two miles of Kona Reef, making just about everything within walking distance of the resort. In addition to all the great seafood, you’ll also find the Kona Brewing Company, the island’s craft brewer that produces a porter made with Kona coffee. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll find plenty to like at one of the town’s several ice cream parlors. Many of these shops offer delicious locally made ice cream, some of which is prepared with Kona coffee.
